Skipped Content Subtitled - My Diary With You Rerun

2020.10.28 09:23 VirusLord Skipped Content Subtitled - My Diary With You Rerun

Event youtube playlist
I've been wanting to do this one for a while, finally had the time to. My Diary With You was the very first story event in the game (and quite a strong start, featuring precious angel Ren), and when the event got a rerun, there were 5 extra story nodes added to it. They mostly show Rika's perspective on the event, and if you're a fan of Rika and Ren, I definitely recommend watching. Of course, NA never did reruns, but you can now enjoy these events fully translated! (If you haven't seen the original event yet, absolutely watch that first, it shouldn't be hard to find. The link only contains the new episodes added to the rerun.)
As is usual for my videos, there are two subtitle tracks, one that follows in the style of the official English localization and another that keeps Japanese honorifics and some other details. If you notice any mistakes, or even if you just have some comments on the subtitle choices, please feel free to let me know! I always welcome feedback to try to make my work the best that it can be.
I'd like to thank TFF, who did the original translation for this event that was on the wiki, though I made some quite substantial changes to their script for the version present in the video. As always, a shoutout to Magia Union Translations for all their support for translation efforts like this one, and you can check our master translation doc to keep up to date on all the current translations.

2020.10.27 14:28 lbunny7 So the problems/most storylines in MM could’ve been resolved with one action, right?

Rika simply breaking up with V. Obviously his love for her was a bad influence to her mental health, unfortunately. Had she just broke up with and left him when she started to resent him, I think she wouldn’t have gone so far off the deep end. She also wouldn’t have nearly blinded him...
Thoughts? Maybe I’m wrong about this, I haven’t finished every route left, it just seems so outlandish to me that Rika went this insane. Who knew we would experience her issues when we first started playing a dating-game app...

2020.10.25 16:29 ull_llu Higurashi (old) discrepancies to clarify

These are all things I thought were ultimately explained straight forward and made sense, however some scouring in other archived reddit threads (archived so I can’t ask there) I’m getting some contradicting or wrong information.
When Kaichii is stabbed by sion who was dressed as Mion and switches back and let’s mion take the fall for what she actually did, she definitely stabbed him to make him wind up in the hospital. We also see she goes to the hospital and finishes him off and ends up falling from her balcony when trying to get back in. However several posters have said that sion never stabbed him in the hospital and he died of a heart attack. This is wrong, correct? She definitely killed him and then dies on her balcony.
Next is the word where kaichii is the only survivor after the GHD at the time we have no reason to believe it’s anything other than gas, but subsequent arcs confirm there is no gas, they kill Rika and execute the whatever plan (forgot the name) which is to round up all the villagers and gas them/shoot the ones who try to escape. That’s precisely what happened in this world right? Again I saw several people say that everyone including Takano dies of gas on a thread dated well after all of the og content was out. These people are just wrong, yeah?
The last question I have isn’t exactly a discrepancy as I don’t have contradicting evidence, but I want to confirm the info on the same thread referenced for the above gave correct info about this: satako’s uncle was killed by kaichii, and kaichii was seen at the festival while he was supposedly killing the uncle. We know the subsequent car ride with Takano is 100% real, however aside from that I’m not sure as the body is gone and Satoko claims her uncle is around still. The answer claimed that both Satoko and kaichii are both at L5 and that kaichii did really kill him, but Satoko still thinks he’s around due to L5 and when she said this it influenced kaichii who was also at L5 to believe that as well. As far as the body goes it was either moved by Takano or he simply can’t see it due to the L5. This explanation has a hole and beyond that doesn’t quite seem right. The explanation DOESNT explain why people saw Keiichi at the festival. Could someone please clarify this hot for me?

10/17 card & notes:

Main Event –Wrestle Princess Preview match Champions vs Challengers

  • Yuka Sakazaki, Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe VS Mizuki, Tenma Nodoka & Yuki Aino

Undercard:

  • International Princess championship tournament 1st round match - Harajuku Pom vs Hikari Noa
  • Six woman tag match – Shoko Nakajima, Hyper Misao & Mahiro Kiryu VS Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh & Raku
  • International Princess championship tournament 1st round match – Yuki Kamifuku VS Suzume
  • Tag match – Maiumi Mirai & Sena Shiori VS Neko Haruna & Moka Miyamoto

notes

  • Tokyo Joshi returns to Shinkiba with a 5 match card
  • The main event will put a team that includes the PuriPuri champ and the tag champs, Yuka, Rika and Miu against their Wrestle Princess challengers, Mizuki who will challenge Yuka at the big show and Nodoka and Yuki who are challenging the tag champs. This will be exciting match up with no clear favorite. Mizuki and Yuka make up the tag team Magical Sugar Rabbits who are former tag team champions so they are extremely familiar with one another, Mizuki is partnering with Nodoka and Yuki who have very little experience teaming with Mizuki but are true life sisters who have been tagging with one another since 2018 and are a well oiled pair. The current tag champs don’t have same pedigree in terms of teaming together as do Nodoka and Yuki but in terms of total combined career length experience, Rika and Miu slightly outmatch their opponents. Rika also has a history with Yuka so they may be able to work more fluidly together than either Yuki or Nodoka could with Mizuki. Still, these small edges don’t paint a good enough picture to be able to predict a clear outcome. What we can say with relative certainty is that this will be an excellent match and an exciting preview of the November title matches.
  • Thunder Rosa has been unable to return to Japan to defend her title, and thus she has relinquished the title. A tournament has been created to crown a new champion. Two of the first round matches took place last week with Shoko and Mirai advancing and the remaining two will take place on this show. In one match of the tournament matches, we will see Hikari Noa take on Harajuku Pom. Pom is a wild card wrestler. Her offense is dynamic and unpredictable and while it seems like she doesn’t take her opponents seriously, this is primarily a head game to trick her opponents into taking her lightly so as they will make mistakes. Hikari is the blue member of the Up Up Girls pro wrestling team but don’t let her idol status fool you, she is a proficient wrestler with a surprising nasty streak. Consistently throwing opponents off their game with cheap shots, less than legal attacks that aren’t enough to really damage them but can keep them from focusing and formulating strategies. Both wrestlers have similar builds and rely more on speed than power but Hikari has a slightly greater experience edge both in time, (debuting in January 2018 as compared to Pom’s November 2018 debut) and in general high pressure situations having challenged for multiple titles and participating in more main events. However due to Pom’s unique fight style and combat tactics, one can never count her out.
  • In another six woman tag match, Miyu, Maki and Raku will face off against Shoko, Misao and Mahiro. While there isn’t too much backstory between these 6 women, Shoko and Miyu have a long standing history of battling each other in various situations with the most recent being Shoko overcoming Miyu in this year’s Princess Cup. Miyu would love to get a little revenge against the woman who ended her dream of finally winning a tournament, and Shoko is always happy to get another win against Miyu scratched into the record books. Looking at the match more broadly, Miyu and Maki have experience together and so do Maki and Raku giving their team a slight edge against their opponents where Shoko and PaMi have experience together but neither have a great deal of time working together with Mahiro. We’ll see if that comes into play.
  • The final first round match for the International Princess belt, Kamiyu will face off against Suzume. Kamiyu has a 2 year experience lead and a huge height advantage. Suzume has a massive uphill battle to be able to get a win over Kamiyu, however Suzume has proved to be and extremely capable and impressive wrestler despite her limited time in the ring. So, while Kamiyu has a number of edges over Suzume, with such an important prize at the end of the tournament, she cannot afford to take Suzume lightly. All it takes is 3 seconds and Suzume has an excellent quick roll-up game.
  • Sena Shiori and Mirai Maiumi will be taking on ToJo’s favorite cat Haruna and the newest rookie Moka. This should be a fun match that gives some of the younger talents a bit of freedom to stretch their abilities against opponents of roughly equal footing. Likely the opener of the show.
  • Marika Kobashi had a minor injury to her shoulder during her return match and is taking a little time off to make sure she is completely recuperated. Some may recall that Marika was sidelined with a major shoulder injury back in 2018 but not to worry, she hasn’t reinjured that shoulder. So she should make her return at the Wrestle Princess show
  • Speaking of Wrestle Princess, here’s what we know so far: 5 matches have more or less been announced. As previously mentioned, Mizuki and Yuka will main event the show with Yuka’s championship on the line and Rika and Miu will defend their tag titles against the Bakuretsu Sisters. The semi-final and final rounds of the International Princess tournament will be held and thus 2 competitors will be fighting twice that night. Also announced a singles match between ToJo hero Hyper Misao and DDT’s Saki Akai has been scheduled and Ganpro wrestler and former ToJo star Yuna Manase will also appear. In merchandise news a new t-shirt as well as a Magical Sugar Rabbits photobook are set to release at the show.
  • For those unaware, Yumi announced her retirement from pro-wrestling. Her struggle to juggle training and focus on her schoolwork had become too great and she has decided to focus solely on her education. It may be that once she finishes her with her goals in education she could re-enter the wrestling world, but for now we wish her luck with her education and appreciate the year she gave to the ring and the fans.
  • A quick reminder for any who may have missed it or forgotten: Mina Shirakawa, Natsumi Maki and Himawari Unagi chose not to continue wrestling with Tokyo Joshi and have all left the promotion as of September 30th.
  • Tokyo Joshi currently has 1 more known trainee that will likely make her debut sometime in the near future.
  • An online signing of Polaroid pictures taken by each of the ladies on the roster is scheduled to begin next week. Purchasing period will end on October 18th just before midnight local Japan time. Interested international parties must purchase through a 3rd party service. In the comments you must write to whom you would like the Polaroid made out (1). As well as whether or not you would like that name to be read out online during the signing. 可 for yes or 不 for no (2).

2020.10.15 13:50 Ideasandthoughts [AMNESIA] A lengthy analysis of Ukyo

Here we are, a special post for Ukyo~!
Ukyo isn't really talked about much either, but I hope I did him some justice with this lengthy post. I included a few translations from his novel because why not?
Warning: Again, huge wall of text ahead.
Links to analyses of other characters: Toma, Kent, Ikki, Shin
Isn't he adorable?
Once I could clearly see the entrance to her apartment complex, I saw someone coming out from it. It’s her. She is alive. As she was walking, her soft hair fluttered in the wind. Her lips were curled into a slight smile and her footsteps were light. Tears came out, wetting my cheeks. I wiped them with the palm of my hand. Before she leaves, I hurriedly go up and try to speak with her. However, I couldn’t.
“You’re late”. She walked towards someone who had been waiting for her. It was a young man with dark, slightly curly hair and a sharp gaze. I’ve seen him before. Or rather, I know him. His name is Shin, she told me he was her childhood friend. He worked part-time in the kitchen at Meido no Hitsuji.
————————————————-
As I took a deep breath to calm down, I could see their hands connected in front of my eyes. They were holding hands. She said something to him and Shin looked sideways while holding out his hand, which she happily held on to. I saw the whole thing from beginning to end. They seemed like lovers. No matter how close they were like siblings, would siblings walk hand in hand? It became hard to breathe and I clutched my chest, my heart throbbing as if in denial.
(from Ukyo's novel, when he travels to Shin's World)
Ukyo is introduced as a mysterious character whose motives are unclear.
1. Doesn’t really have much of a relationship with MC in any of the routes, except his own
Heart World - A guest at the lodge MC met during the Shinano trip. Helped out in looking for MC during the incident. Why would you room in with him, seriously?
Spade World - Appears as a customer at Meido no Hitsuji, warning MC to be careful. Doesn’t do anything else other than that and is sane throughout the route
Clover World - A weirdo wandering the streets that MC meets during her walks home. Basically, just stay with Kent and he’ll be like “Darn it, you won’t die easily then” pffffttt... Turns out he was a regular customer at Meido no Hitsuji before MC lost her memories
Diamond World - Has the craziest version of Ukyo - probably even more so than in his own route (he goes crazy in EVERY encounter while in his route he actually has pretty good control). Million dollar question: Cage or Well? :)
Joker World - A mysterious guy who pops up here and there to give MC warnings and keep her safe. Revealed to be from another world, and was lovers with MC in his original world.

2. The not-so-secret secret character and the Joker
His route in the first game can be unlocked only after getting the Good Endings of all the other routes.
He has 2 sides to his personality - the normal, nice Ukyo and the twisted murderer Ukyo
In Japanese, his normal version is referred to OmoteUkyo (表ウキョウ - 表 meaning surface/front) and his crazy version is referred to as UraUkyo (裏ウキョウ - 裏 meaning back/reverse side).
When speaking about themselves and to other people, OmoteUkyo uses ore (俺) and kimi (君) while UraUkyo uses ore (オレ) and omae (オマエ) respectively. (Basically normal Ukyo speaks like a normal person and crazy Ukyo speaks like a delinquent lol).
Interestingly, MC talks to Ukyo casually even though Ukyo is older than her (before she lost her memories and after she regained them). She calls Ukyo without honorifics and speaks informally unlike with Ikki and Kent. It was revealed that Ukyo himself asked MC to speak casually with him in the game ^^
Ukyo also does this to Kent in Kent’s route but gets a different reaction lol
Kent: I don’t think a stranger like you should be calling my name without honorifics.
Ukyo: I’m sorry, it’s just that we knew each other before.
Kent: …What?
He is symbolised by the Joker - which is often associated with The Fool in Tarot. This card is the first card (numbered 0) and symbolises the beginning of a long journey. The Fool is often reckless but daring, not knowing what lies ahead but jumps straight into the challenge. It really makes sense in Ukyo’s context too, with him travelling to different worlds and not caring about anything other than saving MC.

3. Soft-hearted, clumsy and lonely
He is very emotional and cries easily. (Well, he’s terrible at poker)
Acts like a homeless person throughout his route in the first game… and somehow manages to fall into a lake while sleeping xD
He often feels like an outsider and gets emotional whenever the Meido no Hitsuji staff become friendly with him and invite him to their events.
His senses are distorted… probably due to all that travelling and dying many times
He sleeps outside in hot and cold weather like it’s nothing.
In Later, the other characters team up to torture his taste buds by serving weird things… but they don’t seem to work on him at all, much to the bewilderment of everybody. He also ambushes everyone during a water-gun fight by sneaking up on them without wearing shoes, to which he points out that walking barefoot doesn’t hurt at all since he doesn’t feel any pain o_o
In other media and the sequels, he tends to become the butt of the joke and the target of everyone’s bullying - because his reactions are the strongest and he’s the easiest to make fun of.
Basically the butt of the joke ranking goes something like this… (from least to most):
Toma = Ikki = UraUkyo > Shin >>> Kent >>>>> OmoteUkyo
Guess it also helps that his VA is also cute and adorable irl (Ukyo’s VA and Shin’s VA are chaotic when paired together xD)
His most prominent character trait is definitely his self-sacrifice. He is willing to go through multiple worlds and multiple deaths just to save his beloved. Even when he finds out MC is dating another guy in another world, he stands back and simply wishes her all the happiness.

4. Has an… interesting relationship with Toma
No, not that kind of relationship. (Though there’s that one fujoshi option in Ukyo’s route to kinda-sorta ship them - Toma and Shin will not be impressed if you choose that though LMAO)
First of all, some similarities:
- Obviously, both of them have a crazy side to them - though in Ukyo’s case it’s more like a totally different being while Toma’s madness is part of his normal self.
- They’re the only LI who appear in bad endings in routes other than their own.
- They’re the only LI whose Normal Endings are terrible have them disappear and not have any chance of being with MC at all
- There are a few similarities in their routes - the potted plant falling from above, MC being pushed onto the train tracks, a cabike almost running MC over, the fanclub girls wielding scissors… o_o
- His and Toma’s routes are the only ones where the suspicion bar is maxed out from the very beginning. In Shin’s route, the bar maxes out on the 2nd day, while for Ikki and Kent it happens much, much later.

Ukyo always seems to be bothered by Toma in some way hahaha
He goes on full crazy in Toma’s route, while Toma can be crazy in Ukyo’s route if you don’t choose wisely
Also, Toma is the only LI who doesn’t meet Ukyo in person in his own route. Maybe even Ukyo is too scared to directly confront him lol
In Later, Ukyo implies that he has been brutally murdered in another world by Toma (though he gets interrupted before he could give the specifics - now I’m curious)
Also there’s this scene:
Ukyo: I’m wondering what good do you see in me… I mean, I’m an idiot, an airhead, I can’t keep calm, I act like a little girl, I’m like a ghost, a suspicious guy, a death god.
MC: A death god…?
Ukyo: My hair is long, I can’t do double-digit calculations, I lack common sense, I have no friends, I’m a self-proclaimed photographer but I suck at it! Also, it’s different for me, but you haven’t known me well for very long, have you?
MC: …Ukyo, I don’t really get what you mean…
Ukyo: Besides, I don’t know why but you have so many high-spec good-looking men around you! All of them have their flaws but none of them as bad as mine! Ah… wait. Perhaps he’s the only one whose flaws are on a totally different level, but still…! (ahem, you mean Toma, right Ukyo?)
In Crowd, when being confronted by Shin one of the dialogue options will lead to UraUkyo yelling to Shin “You’re the second biggest nuisance after that damned Toma!”
The drama CDs have Toma (and all the other LI to some extent tbh) bullying Ukyo. In one of them, Toma insults Ukyo’s photography skills (and reads out bad reviews in a mocking tone), making poor Ukyo cry xD

5. His route has some of the best secondary character interactions
Ukyo’s route has the nice-but-dangerous assassin Waka, and Rika is actually MC’s friend for once o_o.
This route also has my (personal) favorite version of Shin. Shin is also amazing in Ikki’s route, but here he’s actually freaking nice (while still being himself). He smiles often, bickers with Toma like actual brothers rather than enemies, shows concern for Mine and advises her not to wear a yukata in such cold weather, defends Sawa for being slightly late even though he expressed annoyance at it initially. He also asks MC to leave quickly when she walks around near Meido no Hitsuji on her rest day, saying that it wouldn’t be good if Waka spots her and makes her help out when she should be resting. Shin also gives the most adorable smile + response ever when MC wishes him good luck in his studying. “I promise I’ll get accepted” AAAHHHH <3
The childhood friend trio interactions here are sweet and reminiscent of how friends actually act around each other (Heart and Diamond World can’t relate pfffft). Shin’s mischievous expression when he teams up with MC to tease Toma is priceless.
As for the other characters, we have Sawa being tortured by Waka and Kent, and Ikki acting like Kent’s mom in a flashback lol
Ikki: He will be working here starting today. He is Kent, please take care of him. He’s huge but he doesn’t bite, don’t worry.
Kent: Ikkyu, don’t say unnecessary things. Besides, I can introduce myself.

6. Points about his route:
- Tbh, he probably brought all that bad luck to himself by breaking MC’s mirror lol
- So many freaking bad endings… but they can pretty much be avoided simply by listening to Ukyo (the right Ukyo, I mean) - so they’re not particularly hard to dodge.
- This is from my personal playing experience, but the threshold to get the Good Ending in his route seems to be somewhat lower than the other routes. I got his Good Ending with an almost full affection bar, but the trust bar was at around 90%-ish filled. That’s still pretty high, but the other routes seem to have stricter requirements and smaller margin for error.
- You can get his Normal Ending if your parameters aren’t high enough for the Good Ending, or you can nab it along your way of getting the Good Ending. Just don’t forgive him - but why would anyone not forgive him, I seriously don’t get it (shrugs)
- You know, you could just have Toma lock MC and Ukyo up in separate cages until 26th August and avoid all this trouble. Not even UraUkyo would dare do anything to MC in Toma’s presence xD
- In his route, on some days MC has to actively seek Ukyo to raise the parameters. Unlike the other LI who MC will meet very often no matter what in their routes, Ukyo generally doesn’t come near MC unless it’s to warn her or he has to see her no matter what.
- In other routes, if MC skips out on a certain interaction with the LI it usually skips to the next scene/day. In Ukyo’s route, however, there is plenty of content even if MC doesn’t meet Ukyo. This is where you get to see all the secondary character interactions, and MC still recovers her memories of Shin + Toma and Ikki + Kent… just none of the memories of Ukyo.
- Ukyo’s constant “You shouldn’t get too close to me because I’m dangerous… ah but you should stay with me but you shouldn’t, but you should I want to see you, but no I’m dangerous” every five minutes drives me freaking crazy ARGH stop it already (flips table)
- There aren’t really choices that drop affection/trust (there are like, 1 or 2 in the whole route, but that’s it). With Ukyo, MC gains a lot of affection and trust which you can’t really drop… so if you want to achieve the Normal Ending or a particular Bad Ending, since you can’t reduce the affection/trust, you’ll have to avoid him as much as possible (i.e. don’t seek him out on days Orion ask you)
- Ukyo’s route is the only route where the title of some of his Endings are spoken by a non-LI character. His Normal Ending “Do you know Ukyo?” is spoken by Waka in the game, and his Good Ending “This time, don’t lose what’s important to you” is spoken by Nhil.
- Since from 1st till 25th August the dangers surrounding MC are amplified, it’s highly likely that the emotions of the people around her have been amplified as well, for example the jealousy and hatred from the fanclub members and Toma’s overprotective nature. In Later, after all the chaos has passed the fanclub girls come out to apologize to MC, saying they were terrified by what they did and had no idea why they would go that far even if they felt jealous of MC. Toma is pretty normal in Ukyo’s route so long as he doesn’t find out about any danger that befalls MC. Ukyo’s novel mentions him as a nice person, always being friendly with him even after knowing he was dating MC. He can still be a little scary in Later though,>! when he finds out MC had been crying because of something Ukyo did… but good thing it’s a misunderstanding.!<

7. Sequels and other media
In the sequels, his crazy side still exists, but no longer tries to harm MC since there’s no point. The subsequent games take a most light-hearted approach as the two Ukyos disagree on so many things. (UraUkyo does all the cleaning, laundry and other chores while being irritated at OmoteUkyo’s uselessness LMAO). One Ukyo is also more flirty and physical than the other super shy one… (basically, imagine having Ikki and Kent in the same body hahaha)
Also, since there are two Ukyos, that means there are two weddings… with two rings. Yeah, I’m not kidding. xD
The other LIs in his route play the “protective squad” role. They serve as comic relief and threaten to hurt Ukyo if he makes MC sad.
The structure of Ukyo’s novel is also quite different from that of the other characters. The other LI’s novels outline all the things happening in their routes (+ some additional scenes), but Ukyo’s novel focuses less on his route in the game (it still does, but there is less emphasis on it) and more on the events prior to it.
It starts out very much like a shoujo manga hahaha… (well, Ukyo is cute after all)
It describes (in full doki-doki sweetness) the time Ukyo meets MC, falls in love with her, orders 5 different drinks in the cafe out of nervousness and his confession to MC.
…Then things take a super angsty turn.
She looked like she was merely asleep. It seemed like she could just open her eyes at any moment and smile at me while calling my name. But her chest doesn’t rise and fall with her breath. As I reached out to touch her cheeks, my fingertips were trembling slightly. She will never wake up again. She will no longer call my name or smile at me ever again.
My knees felt weak and I collapsed on the spot. “Why?! Why did she have to die?!” I slammed my fist repeatedly on the floor. I didn’t feel any pain even with blood oozing from my hand. Since I don’t feel any pain, I expected this to be a dream. Yet, when I raise my head I see her lifeless form right there. I cried and screamed until my throat felt raw. Why… I didn’t want to acknowledge that I had lost her, and I curled up my body as I cried. Even with my swollen eyes and blurry vision, her death was so clear in my mind that it wouldn’t let me forget.
————————————————
An indescribable scream escapes my throat as I buried my face in her bed with my hands clasped tightly. Why did she have to die? I should’ve died instead of her. Someone please exchange my life with hers. There’s no way she should die.
“Hey, aren’t you sleeping a little too much…?” I tried talking to her, but it only made things more painful. “Hurry and wake up… you can’t keep sleeping” My vision was distorted and sobs came out.
Somebody… anybody is fine. I don’t care who it is as long as she opens her eyes once more. I didn’t use to believe in gods, demons or ghosts but from now I’ll believe anything. I’ll pray every morning if you tell me to, I’ll do it if you want me to sell my soul, I’ll even accept being cursed to death. If there is anything I can do, I will do it. Therefore, someone… anyone…
… Please, save her!!
(I skipped a few paragraphs in between because… yes, he grieved for THAT long…)
After that, he travels to multiple worlds and sees MC once more… only to find her dating another person (such as the moment with her and Shin at the beginning of this post).
A HUGE part of his novel describes his and MC’s deaths (in rather gory detail o_o), and depicts pretty much all the death-related bad endings from Ukyo’s POV (and his reactions to them) + other deaths not shown in the game. So yes, Ukyo has suffered a lot... poor thing.
Everyone gathered at the lounge of the lodge, where she sat leaning against the wall with blood pouring from her abdomen. Right next to her was Sawa, whose face was messed up with tears. Sawa must’ve been the one who screamed. When I appeared, the four men who had gathered there looked at me with piercing gazes. Shin, Toma, Ikki and Kent, the four of them kept their eyes on me, never looking away. I didn’t understand what had happened. Her face was ghostly pale with her eyes closed, and at her feet was a large knife, reflecting the light illuminating the staircase.
(What do you mean you don’t understand what happened - you killed her, dude… well, the other you... but poor Shin being questioned by the police, suspected of pushing his girlfriend off a cliff, and now said girlfriend is dead o_o)
The final chapters then describe the event of his route since it’s basically his last attempt at saving MC.

8. Personal thoughts about Ukyo’s route and character
For me, Ukyo’s route isn’t actually as scary as Toma’s. Rather, it’s more sad than scary. In his route, crazy Ukyo doesn’t really appear that often (mainly in Bad Endings and towards the end of the route) and Ukyo actually seems to have fairly good control of his other side for the most part.
Ukyo’s and Toma’s scariness differ in that Ukyo resorts to outright brutal violence and murder, while Toma’s is more psychological. I touched on why a lot of people seem more terrified by Toma than Ukyo in Toma’s analysis.
Nevertheless, Ukyo’s route is pretty balanced compared to the other routes. It’s quite heavy but has aspects of comedy, romance, mystery and horror in fairly equal doses. The other routes lean more heavily to a certain genre but in this route you’ll find just as many funny moments as sad ones.
Character-wise, I can see why he is appealing to a lot of people. When he’s not crazy he’s very sweet and emotional. He’s willing to do so much in the name of love. Self-sacrifice is a major theme in his story and character - good for him that he finally has his wish fulfilled~
Personally, to me he’s more like a child (it’s weird, I know) rather than a love interest so I don’t see him as a romantic option but more in an awwwwwwww kind of way ^_^
TLDR: Ukyo is a… sweet cup of… kale green tea.
Another bonus, featuring the two Ukyo’s - one as Snow White and the other as the Witch

(Top left panel)

2020.09.30 10:35 Ideasandthoughts [AMNESIA] A very lengthy character analysis of Ikki

Finally, I got around to finishing Ikki’s analysis (it was painful). Ikki has plenty of people who like him, but I don’t see him being talked about in depth that much so it would be nice to have some discussion about the Ikster ;)
I’ve previously done a Kent and Toma analysis for anyone who’s interested. Kent’s analysis ties in with Ikki’s, naturally since they’re very close buddies. I included details not just from the original game, but from other media that I could get my hands on since they provide more details on certain aspects.

This scene will never not be funny xD All guys: Good morning; MC: Wh-Who are they?!
1. As with all the other LI, his relationship with MC differs according to the route
He is friends with Kent in every route.
Heart World - A guy from another university MC meets during the trip to Shinano. Teamed up with Kent to find and rescue MC after she fell from a cliff
Spade World - MC’s coworker at Meido no Hitsuji and boyfriend. MC agreed to go out with him for 3 months and her amnesia happens with 1 month left to their dating period.
Clover World - Kent’s best friend and love guru. Helps Kent score points with MC and mend their relationship
Diamond World - the cause of all MC’s problems… well not really but still… MC’s love guru for the past few months prior to her amnesia. Toma misunderstands their frequent meet-ups as them dating (to be fair, Toma isn’t the only one - pretty much everyone misunderstands, otherwise the harassment wouldn’t have occurred in the first place)
Joker World - MC’s coworker at Meido no Hitsuji
2. Has an amazing bromance with Kent
Wherever Ikki is, Kent is there and vice versa. Ikki provides good advice when Kent’s relationship is not going well, while Kent is a good listener to Ikki’s problems and goes along with whatever odd idea Ikki comes up with.
It’s especially hilarious when you read their stories from their respective POVs. You have Ikki being a bro and giving Kent the exact right words to say to improve his relationship with MC. Then on the other hand there’s Kent unwittingly ruining things for Ikki (+Ikki facepalming hard in the background LMAO)
Here’s a little translation of the scene where MC and Kent get to know each other and chat in Ikki’s house while Ikki prepares drinks in the kitchen from his POV in the novel (He was eavesdropping - I swear I was laughing so hard at this part):
“Have you met Ikki’s past girlfriends?” I heard her relentless question.
I hope Ken doesn’t say anything strange, and I quickly glanced at the coffee filter while the coffee hasn’t filled the pot yet.
“I have. However, you seem to be quite different from the other women I’ve seen. I’ve gained an interest in you ever since hearing that you’re actually making Ikkyu struggle.”
Ken’s doing good so far.
“Still, now that I’ve met you, you seem unexpectedly ordinary.”
Aah… Ken is Ken after all. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t care about me, but he’s too merciless towards her. A normal guy would never call a girl ordinary.
“From what I’ve seen, Ikkyu tends to choose relatively well-developed women, so you are quite different from them.”
I held my head in the kitchen. Ken’s saying it as if she was underdeveloped.
“Although it’s possible that he just considers that aspect refreshing.”
Stop making wild guesses. I went out with her because I was interested in her, not because I thought of her development as refreshing. I can’t even defend myself since I’m not there.
3. His route shares many similarities with Kent’s
Most of these similarities have been mentioned in Kent’s analysis
Funnily enough, Ukyo doesn’t even try anything in Ikki’s route. He just… sits back and lets the fangirls handle it lol
4. Is very gentlemanly and a smooth talker
Always offers to carry MC’s bag, walks slowly while with MC (Kent can’t relate pffft) and speaks in a pretty… how do I put it… soft way. Doesn’t speak in the guyish and familiar manner that Shin and Toma do, but isn’t stiff like Kent. Tends to use softer terms/endings in his words (it’s much more obvious in Japanese). Also, he calls all ladies ojou-san >///<
He also speaks with MC’s father very naturally. (wouldn’t most people be super nervous when facing their girlfriend’s parents…) That was a pretty cool scene imo.
5. Seems to like causing trouble with Shin and Toma
Heart World - Choose to sleep in Ikki’s room overnight in the lodge and Shin will react… badly (Ikki’s taunting doesn’t help either)
Spade World - Shin making it pretty clear that Ikki's flirty attitude is annoying. Also Shin acting like a grade schooler and tattling on every single thing between Ikki and MC to Waka xD
And then you have Ikki taunting Shin by saying that he doesn’t have a girlfriend lmao
Ikki also mentions the coffee being decent at Meido no Hitsuji but the food being terrible (to which Kent agrees). Well, guess who’s the chef at Meido no Hitsuji hahaha
We also have Ikki clearly not liking Toma taking care of MC and Toma being suspicious of this perverted masked man claiming to be MC’s boyfriend
Diamond World - Don’t mention Ikki to Toma. Just don’t.
Of course this only applies to the first game as subsequently they actually get along with each other.
6. His route has some of the funniest and also saddest moments in the game
His route has the most dramatic version of Waka, the hilarious antics with Shin and Toma, an epic Math puzzle battle with Kent and a very sassy Orion. Also, Ikster will never get old xD
Not really related to the game, but the anime adaptation of his story only covers like 1/4 of his route but somehow manages to squeeze in all the “I’ll carry your bag” scenes… earning him his “Bag” nickname xD
On the other hand, pretty much any ending other than the Good Ending in his route is very sad. They show how bad he can be at dealing with intense emotions and how vulnerable he really is.
7. Has some of the hottest CGs among all the LIs
He’s got like tons of kiss CGs and a lot of really hot ones FWAAAAAA (especially in the sequels)… The other LIs do have kiss scenes but most of their CGs are more fluffy/heartwarming than straight up hot >///<
Also, Ikki just looks alluring overall and his voice is very seductive (personal opinion, but I’m sure at least someone would agree)
8. Shares some similarities with Toma
- Both are good at interacting with people - well, they’re both waiters at their job and not stuck in the kitchen for a reason
- Both are popular with women (yes, Toma too. Shin even compares his lady-attracting ability to Ikki’s in the game pffft)
- Both have a darker side to their lighter personality (Ikki tends to be very angsty and don’t get me started on his bad ends, while Toma… is sweet and fluffy… until something threatens to harm MC)
- They both tend to bottle up their emotions to the point of snapping
- Toma bottles up his feelings for MC both in Shin’s and his route… and when he can’t take it anymore he snaps… hard
- Ikki comes off as cool and confident in front of MC and the fangirls but by himself he can be in a pretty bad state
- They’re both pretty passive in their relationship with MC
Shin makes a lot of advances towards MC. He makes it clear he doesn’t want to be seen merely as a childhood friend/brother and does anything to close the distance
Kent, while clumsy and bad at expressing his true intentions, actually tries his best to make the relationship with MC work. He texts MC regularly, makes her go to his place often just so he could see her and frequently consults his friends for relationship advice
Toma, always being afraid to ruin his current sibling relationship with MC, doesn’t try to get closer. He is always hovering around MC, being close enough to be within reach but never actually reaching out. In his own route, he tells MC that they’re lovers but resists doing anything that would be typical of lovers until he snaps, that is. He’s lucky MC has a spine in his route that she never gives up approaching him.
As for Ikki, while he definitely isn’t passive in terms of making advances, he is pretty much so when it comes to dealing with the obstacles in their relationship (i.e. the fanclub). He assumes MC is able to understand that this is the way things are and he can’t help it - well, she did understand, but then the amnesia happened. His unwillingness to deal with the fangirls once and for all has gained him some hatred among players and I do understand (believe me, if I had to deal with this crap irl annoying doesn’t even begin to describe it) but I do believe he is pretty misunderstood, much like Toma is. I’ll elaborate on this later.
Interestingly enough, this also applies to how each of the LI deal with the MC’s amnesia. Shin and Kent, upon finding out about it take active approaches to help MC recover her memories. Toma knows about it from the very beginning but tries to prevent MC from remembering too much (so that she doesn’t have to recall the unpleasant harassment that’s happening to her) and while Ikki clearly senses something wrong with MC, doesn’t try to push her to tell him and instead patiently waits for her to open up to him, unless MC acts too suspiciously (and has low affection + trust) - which will lead to a bad ending where Ikki directly confronts her and… has some trouble accepting things.
- Both are pretty divisive characters - Toma more so than Ikki, but Ikki seems to get a fair share of hate for his flaky personality and his fanclub mess. I find it pretty interesting that the two super divisive characters are the most popular ones in Japan lol. Ikki is the 2nd most popular after Toma in the official poll. Ikki’s character trope (the playboy) isn’t uncommon, so why is he popular? I’m gonna guess probably because he’s not your typical playboy. He’s a misunderstood character that appears flaky on the outside but has a lot of depth to his feelings - but players have to get through a significant portion of his route before his sincerity becomes obvious and that requires some amount of patience to get to (the beginning parts of his route can make people want to smack him)
9. Main points about Ikki’s route:
Tbh his route gave me a huge headache to piece together (or maybe I’m just slow, idk) but here’s what I gathered...
i. MC initially hated Ikki because of his playboy nature and how it reminded her of her father’s multiple marriages. However, she was curious about what was going on in his fanclub and decided to join it.
ii. Ikki confessed to MC since he has taken a liking to her (because his power didn’t work on her and she still tried to talk to him normally despite the dark rumors surrounding him). MC agreed to go out with him because after getting to know him better, he actually seemed like a good guy.
iii. From Ikki’s perspective, up till the end of July MC seemed to be warming up to him but was still somewhat far from accepting him. From MC’s perspective, she was starting to like him a lot but was holding back out of fear of being discarded (as according to the rumors he would throw girls away after having fun with them)
iv. At the beginning of August, MC lost her memories and her actions became confusing to Ikki. On one hand, she started relying more on him (asking him to walk her to work, etc), but on the other hand she became unresponsive to his advances and stopped showing any sort expression to him (well, she lost her personality along with her memories). Ikki thought they were drifting apart again after all it took to get closer the past few months, so he became desperate.
v. Ikki spends most of his story being stuck between trying to gain MC’s love and not upsetting the fanclub girls. He made it clear to MC at the beginning that he would have to treat her coldly in front of the fangirls in order to protect her. MC, who had forgotten about this, misunderstands his treatment of her and does things that put her in danger which frustrates Ikki.
vi. Ikki notices that the fanclub harassment towards MC has significantly worsened since August and the girls were getting a lot clingier to him than before. Once MC finally opens up to him about her amnesia, they start figuring out the missing pieces.
vii. Ikki mentions that he has never been able to go out with anyone longer than 3 months, even when he tried hard to make the relationship work. MC pieces together her missing memories and finds out that rather than it being because Ikki couldn’t maintain any relationship for long, it was because Ikki himself was being manipulated by Rika and the fangirls. This means that no matter how hard Ikki tried to have a relationship beyond 3 months, they established rules behind his back to prevent him from staying with any particular girl. MC hides this fact from Ikki and Sawa in order to protect him from the hurtful truth that all these years he was merely a victim of manipulation. The harassment towards MC escalated since her amnesia as she had forgotten to send her daily reports to the fanclub.
10. My personal opinion on Ikki’s character
If I had to use one word to describe him… ‘pitiful’ is the word I’d use.
The reason for his passivity in general is mainly because he has already resigned to his fate. Many times in the game and his novel he mentions being at the mercy of God, or “being punished by God” when things don’t go the way he wants. He even has a Bad Ending called “Not bad, God”. His POV takes the angst up a notch: “When I realised that I had lost all my friends, I made another wish to the stars. I asked that things be as if my first wish was never made. However, God has completely forgotten about me, and did not do anything. Looking up at the sky, there are so many stars… but none of them would grant my wish. I don’t know how to escape this suffering that has been going on for over ten years.”
It hasn’t occurred to him to actively fight for something, since “It’ll all be the same, whether I choose one person, everyone, or no one. I’ll still have to hurt someone”.
He is also unable to firmly reject the girls because even though their clinginess is irritating, he cannot fully blame them since in the end they are merely victims to his eyes. He blames himself for causing everything. In the game, on the night poor drunk Ikki poured out his troubles to MC he talks about the guilt of having to reject so many people and making them cry. The novel expands on the scene - he has to deal with girls breaking down in tears and saying they want to die over and over. While he really wants to get it over with, he can only speak gently to them especially when they’re in such a volatile state. (Honestly, it would be terrifying to have someone confess to you and threaten to die if you were to reject them ugh). He also talks about how irritating it is when the girls just grab his arm out of nowhere but he can’t do anything about it. (Women can often speak up against men grabbing them but men can’t do the same… well sure they can speak up but they tend to be taken less seriously)
“Giving up” seems to be a major theme in his route. His Bad Ending has him give up on everything... drowning his sorrows in alcohol and... literally wanting to drown himself (man, thank goodness he at least has Kent), and his Normal Ending has him give up on the relationship (he still accepts whenever MC approaches him but no longer tries to seek her and has a pessimistic outlook on their relationship).
His Good Ending involves him taking charge for once. As he gains more confidence as MC opens up to him, he starts gaining the courage to face the fanclub. Towards the end, the amnesia did have some benefit for them after all as without MC losing her memories, the harassment may not have escalated enough for Ikki to become more resolved to protect her and MC may have continued to keep quiet about the fanclub’s rules and Ikki may have continued to be trapped in the endless cycle.
On a lighter note, in the sequels we get to see a very fluffy Ikki. We get fuzzy drunkard Ikki spouting embarrassing things while drinking with Kent while Kent just… keeps a straight face while listening lmao. We also have Ikki making a poor annoyed Shin listen to his love stories and Shin begging MC to take him away. Then there’s the epic Ikki faceoff with MC’s father~
All in all, Ikki is a very interesting character and it was really fun (but emotionally exhausting) to analyse him. Kent ends up being the comic relief in his story and Shin begrudgingly becomes a supporter of their relationship which is pretty sweet to see xD
TLDR: Ikki is a precious cinnamon roll........

2020.09.30 01:06 KindleCollie Just a few of my thoughts..

Tomorrow I start 707’s route, so bear in mind that I haven’t finished everything. But I have seen a lot of spoilers. Forgive me if any of this stuff has been said, or if I’m way off. But again, just my thoughts so far.
  1. On the last day of Jumin’s route, Jumin asks Zen to protect/care for MC if anything were to happen to him. You all know that Zen has psychic dreams. What if he has this dream/instinct to always take care of MC is because of this? Could also be from remembering he loved her during his route too...but Yoosung doesn’t act like that.
  2. This is probably going to be way off, but I know 707 pushes MC away because he’s dangerous on his route. Is there any possible way that 707 and his twin brother, are actually the same person? I know they have their own route, but I was almost thinking of split personalities. There’s also hints towards him making the game, he basically implies it. If you listen to the theme song, you have the space station in which 707 says, and you also have “watching from the start”. He chose MC on purpose. They both know about hacking, and they’re both really like MC. Saeran I’ve read is obsessed with MC. Is that why he made the game? Maybe Saeran’s evil side comes out when he’s with MC? On the Valentine route, you have the option of two different sides. The nice and sweet 7, or the more kinky hacker type. I saw in one of the options that MC can even say that he’s not like himself in that one. She also doesn’t recognize 7’s place? Was the whole goal of the game to show ultimate love for 7/Saeran and everyone? To show love despite all their characters inner demons. Or was it to uncover all of his secrets? Doesn’t 7 also say in dark chocolate that he wants to hack her and she won’t remember anything before him? Hmm...maybe it takes place before or after the game.
Even if not, and you go with the theory that 707 made the game, I also notice that so many of the characters tell MC she’s just like Rika (drives me crazy to be honest). Does 7 create the game so MC is like Rika? Obviously not the evil side, but the side everyone wanted to see. The side that wanted to help people. I guess I wonder what the goal was.
Is Jumin anymore protective in 7’s route to MC? I saw he takes a vacation or something, which is something he says during his own route. It just makes me wonder about the time period of these things. Hopefully Jaehee gets her vacation too. Lol
Lastly, maybe im just crazy. Maybe people think it’s just a dating app, which I personally don’t. I think it’s much more than that.
Edit to add: does 707’s twin route occur in the past? If so, maybe the game begins in the future. Maybe that’s why 707 loves MC and made the game because he missed her? Maybe 707 gets happy when she remembers, and loves him...but also remembers his dark past and his dangerous side. Or perhaps, when 707 “discovers” Mint Eye, he’s so broken because he remembers and half remembers his past as “evil”. Or he remembers what he did to MC. He can’t explain to MC, because of things he doesn’t remember himself, or stuff he doesn’t want to say. 707 mentions bread crumbs. Bread crumbs can be a trail like they do in fairy tales. Bread crumbs to find your way back. MC is time traveling. 707 has also mentioned a time machine.
I also notice how Jumin is so obsessive over MC and wants to marry her straight away. It could be because he’s not use to relationships, or is it so we don’t leave him for someone else and reset? Although MC tells him “my heart will always be with you”. He locked MC inside so she only stays with him, knowing what she can do. Jumin knows that V has secrets. When V picks her up, v mentions about Jumin drawing a house and making sure everything was safe incase of natural disasters. That wasn’t put there for no reason. He’s very cautious and he wants to make sure everything is safe, until the party with MC. I honestly think Jumin knows all about what MC can do. Does he know everything about V? No, probably not... but I think he can definitely tell how special MC is. I think V/Jumin/707 have all seen mc’s journey or parts of it at least.
Another thing, when MC goes home from Jumin’s house, his picture says “people say you go alone if you want to go fast, and go together if you want to go far. MC, I want to go far with you.” A couple days before this, 707 asks MC how she likes driving at night. If she says she likes to see the stars, he says “so appropriate! If we run faster the stars and the moon will follow us too! it’s a race! Of course it’s much more fun if it’s a long race lololol” 🤔
If this game is actually Saeran/v first and then to the deep, and regular stories, usually you end up with Zen first in your route. Does that mean he’s your last? He’s seen/felt everything that you’ve gone through and you end with him..the one who’s protected you and was so worried about men who turn into wolves. Don’t trust them. Don’t trust anyone. 😂 also if you go this way, you know way more back then, but then as you keep resetting, you lose some memory.
Sorry this turned out so long.

2020.09.26 23:27 gofishus [Review] Aokana: Four Rhythms (Nintendo Switch)

[Review] Aokana: Four Rhythms (Nintendo Switch)

https://preview.redd.it/hm8w2waf7kp51.jpg?width=616&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=452a45349118687f4c6ee598b3682ff62a2d707e
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Developer: Sprite
Release: Aug 21, 2020
Price: $40 USD
Aokana: Four Rhythms Across the Blue (not sure why they named it that) is a visual novel with a premise that’s a bit different than most visual novels – instead of being a typical dating sim or investigative type visual novel, it focuses on a competitive sport.
Plot: In Aokana’s universe, there’s an invention called Anti-Gravity Shoes which like the name implies, allows its wearers to fly in the sky. There’s a popular sport in the game called Flying Circus which makes use of the shoes. The sport is deceptively simple: it’s a one on one sport where the players have to stay within a square, and a player scores a point either by touching the outer posts of the square consecutively before the other player, or by touching the other player’s back. The player with the most points at the end of regulation wins.

Masaya typically commentates on a match
Of course, there’s more to it than that. There’s different playing styles – Fighter (focuses on touching the opponent’s back), Speeder (focuses on touching the posts before the other player), and All-Rounder (can do either, but does not specialize as much as the other two). There’s lots of basic and advanced moves shown in the game. There’s also different types of Anti-Grav Shoes and different settings for them. Honestly, the sport and the strategies they explain are fairly well detailed for a visual novel like this and sometimes I felt myself getting sucked into this fictional sport and rooting for different teams as if it actually existed.
The protagonist, Masaya Hinata, was a former top FC (Flying Circus) player, who quit the sport due to a traumatic event, and is now tasked with coaching a team of 3 girls and 1 guy to lead their school to the FC championship.

Shindou demolishes Misaki in a dogfight
Gameplay: Ok, it’s not entirely focused on the sport, there are some dating sim and eroge elements in the game – but they happen mostly towards the end of the game and are very light by visual novel standards and nothing too shocking occurs. Hinata can date/focus on one of 4 girls in the game, depending on which options you select in the game, but the options don’t come up very often, so the majority of this game is basically just reading.

Dating sim elements are in the game, but are relatively uncommon
Characters: I love the characters. They’re probably the strong point of this game. Masaya Hinata is not that pervy compared to most visual novel protagonists, and mostly focuses on the tasks at hand. He’s a relatively serious protagonist, despite the harlem of girls around him, and that’s a welcome change of pace from all those perverted protagonists from other visual novels I’ve played.
-Asuka is the main and default girl in the game, she’s a very cheerful type that’s hard to dislike, a bit ditzy sometimes, but also an FC prodigy and the school’s best player.
-Misaki is Hinata’s close female friend, an academic genius, has an odd sense of humor and a bit of a tomboy. I have no problems with Misaki, I think she’s pretty cool.
-Mashiro. I personally don’t really like this character. She’s a borderline lesbian stalker with her one sided obsession with Misaki, and honestly doesn’t really have many redeeming qualities unlike the other characters. Still, she’s in here as a ‘cute/dorky’ type.
-Rika is Hinata’s next door neighbor and unlike the other 3 girls she’s the only dateable option that’s not from the same school. She has a pretty serious personality that makes it hard for me to get into her, but some players may like her.
-Madoka is the FC club’s manager and a very silly girl with a lot of funny comments sometimes. Honestly it makes her charming and I wish she was a dateable option, but alas she is not.
-Shion is Madoka’s older brother and president of the FC club, the only guy Hinata coaches, and has an obsession with muscles and working out.-Aoi is Hinata’s homeroom teacher, his former mentor, a former FC superstar player and the FC Club advisor.
-Shirase is the Grav Shoe’s store owner and drops by sometimes for advice.
-Satouin is a typical princessy-type girl who is one of the regular opponents for the FC Club
-Shindou is the initial antagonist in the game, a top FC player and a big opponent for the FC club
-Saki and Irina are the final antagonists in the game, and behave (and play) in a manner that suits that title
The characters overall are very fleshed out and the humor plays out pretty well sometimes between them, I think the fact that the characters are interesting also makes the FC matches fun to get into as well.

The whole gang
The FC Club
Graphics: I have no complaints about the graphics in this game, they are high quality modern Anime style graphics and I’m not surprised that just like Steins Gate, Yu-No, Muv-Luv and others – that this game has been adapted into an Anime series. There’s sometimes characters moving in the background or animations but those scenes are relatively uncommon. The chapters are even split into ‘episodes’ making it feel more like an Anime.

Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash got nothing on this
Music: The background music is very fitting to the scenes, and sometimes during certain eventful scenes, jpop music will start playing, making this game feel even more like an Anime sometimes. I have no problems with that.
Conclusion: 9/10 from me. I really enjoyed this visual novel more than I expected. I usually play dating sims, sci-fi and investigative type visual novels, so it’s kind of refreshing to play a title that focuses on a competitive sport and coaching these girls instead of just romance. Sure there IS romance, but it’s very sparse and light compared to other visual novels. The characters are very easy to get into and that makes the FC sport and matches themselves very interesting to get into too. Had no complaints about the graphics or music either. The only thing is people who are expecting a visual novel with more gameplay should probably look elsewhere – this visual novel is very heavy on reading with very little gameplay elements. There’s a few choices here and there but that’s about it. Overall I do recommend this title if you are ok with mostly reading instead of clicking options.

2020.09.24 17:32 otherstuffofit My Impression on 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Story (Spoiler)

I mainly focus on talking about chapter 6 and the ending on chapter 7. I played this game without knowing anything beforehand. To be fair, I played 7th Dragon 2020 although it was in Japanese and I followed purely on walkthrough. At the time I was interested because there was Hatsune Miku in the game.
On to the topic, when I played this game from chapter 1 to 5. My impression was that it is your typical RPG game where you save the world and time travel is quite a common concept in RPG game. The story can be a little bit confusing but playing 7th Dragon 2020 helped me a little bit on comprehending the story.
On chapter 6 however, my views on the game changed dramatically. The story turned to be one of the darkest plot I have seen in an RPG game. Chapter 6 started with Yuma getting injected with the newest true dragon speciment and went berserk. This was to be expected since throughout the whole game he blindedly wanting to get stronger in any way. When Allie was revealed to be the "villain", I was not that suprised. This is not the first time in a game where the superior who ask you to do this and that turns out to be the one with a twisted mind. Then on we go to the terrace where Allie revealed herself as ND (2nd true dragon) and killed your teammates. This one came as a bit of a shock to me because usually in this situation, as important main casts, they only get knocked out unconcious.
Then Allie summoned Chika and Rika who happened to be dragonslayer. I did not see this coming since throughout the whole game their role was not that impactful to the plot. I thought they were some lighthearted supporting cast. The day before you had the moments where you took a photo with Chika and Rika as a goodbye for completing all the quest. You can even date Chika before and she asked you for a hug. Imagine doing those things and you have to kill each other on the next day. Before you confronted Allie on the terrace, Chika and Rika left a note when you go the their counter. The situation made you believe that they indeed went on a break.
After you defeated both of them, berserked Yuma came a long and took the finishing blow. When Yuma arrived, I saw that one coming but I felt really sad because just the day before you had the opportunity to know both of them. After this you had the chance to freely roam the terrace and examined the corpses of your deceased teammates. The game did not hold back when describing how they died such as Jil's broken armor and Eigur died while protecting Ulania.
Then, Mio desperately confronted Yuma and Yuma tried to killed Mio only for Yorimoto to blocked the fatal blow. It was a sad scene since Yorimoto revealed himself as Mio's father only to die moments later. The voice acting of Mio crying over her father's death was like a dagger to my heart. She witnessed all people he cared about, people that she spent time with the day before by having food party, died before her eyes on a blink of an eye. The description on how Yorimoto died was quite gruesome as well.
After the confrontation on the terrace you were free to explore the buildings only to find all people in it died. People that you saved from Atlantic and Eden, people that thanked you for making construction around the building, people that asked you for help during a quest died just like that. This one was a little bit hard to take. The depressing BGM did not really help the situation either. I then decided to look at one thing......cat cafe. I mean they would not dare to kill cats right? Right? Boy was I wrong.
Then you battle Yuma on Parliament building. His death was not that impactful to me to be honest although I can understand if some people feel sad about his death. He truly believed power is everything right before he died when he realized otherwise. You continue to the underground to face ND where you got a cutscene on Mio's last moment before she died to her illness. The game really did not slow down on the emotional train. After the cutscene, I was really sad and curious that I decided to head back to check on Mio's corpse (I should not had done that). Again, the game describe the condition of Mio's corpse. If there is one character that deserves a happy ending, I will say that it is Mio.
You then confronted ND and battle her. Her death was not that emotional. Throughout the game you had little to no sympathetic moments with her including her date events. Jullietta helped you to complete the Dragon Chronicle right before he died. On the final stage Nagamimi decided to helped you and open a gate to an alternate world where everyone still lived. This one is quite to me disturbing because you were not actually interacting with real people. They all died a gruesome dead right before your eyes. You might spent sometime in that alternate world either since grinding might be necessary. On the course of the final stage, your deceased friends did give you some motivations along the way.
On to the ending, you saved the world and somehow you got "transferred" into this new world or I should say normal world where dragon never actually exist. Nagamimi somehow transformed into a cute girl. While this new world seems peaceful, there are things that left a hole in my heart. In this world, Allie, Chika, Rika, and Yuma did not exist since they only exist on a reality where dragons exist. Not only that, it means people of Atlantic was believed only as a myth. People from Eden never existed in the first place since they are from a future where dragon calamity happen. Worst yet, while your Unit 13 teammates might exist somewhere in this world, it does not apply to your temmates from Atlantic and Eden. You then took a tour around the building and talked to some people that still exist because their existence are not related to dragon calamity. It is sad that most of them remember little to nothing about you but I think the plot is quite right to stay that way. To be fair, there is a last memorial photo from your last quest on the dormitory complete with all people you met. At the last moment before the credits, you met Mio. I think this is where the game did something right and it is for Mio. In this world she happily lives with her father and best yet, she fully remembers who you are. It kind of make up for everything that you lose after chapter 6. It really feels like you are talking to the same Mio that died right before your eyes. This is where I think the happy ending was truly deserved for Mio. One of the character with focused development throughout the whole story. She was full of doubt but learned to take responsibility and be better. She suffered from her illness and lost of her beloved ones but still helped you until her last breath.
To conclude my impression, the game really did well on executing the dark story which I did not expect it to be that dark when I first got the game and how to drive the plot to somehow make it a happy ending. However, the happy ending is not as I expected it to be. You still suffered from losing someone you cared about but the game taught you to move on with life, on the bright side, people around the world can now live happily especially for Mio.
What do you guys think? If you have your own impression feel free to post. I want to know how people think about this game.

2020.09.21 16:11 Vaccineman37 Three Great Vengeful Spirits

I reread some of the prequel the other day and I noticed that when Gojo’s ancestor Sugawara No Michizane is brought up that he is mentioned to not only have been a shaman but also one of the ‘three great vengeful spirits’. A vengeful spirit is a former human that has become a ghost with powerful cursed energy after death. Since several small elements from the prequel such as Floating Cloud and Toji’s worm have been carried over, I wanted to analyse this concept since it could come back up. So I’ll list who I think are the big three.
  1. Sugawara-No-Michizane: Both Gojo and Yuta’s ancestor dating back a very long time ago. Considering he was a shaman and has such strong blood that someone as diluted as Yuta is a born special grade, it’s quite likely he’s the very founder of the Gojo clan. He was also extremely powerful, potentially a Six Eyes and Limitless user like Satoru, someone who can create curses like Yuta or capable of a technique that precedes it. He hasn’t come up again, but I think it’s likely he will in the future. A wild guess from me says he was Sukuna’s mentor before he became King of Curses which leads to...
  2. Ryomen Sukuna: even though he hasn’t been confirmed to be one of the three, this seems like a total non-brainer to me. Sukuna has been stated to be a former human that has become a cursed spirit, which means he would fit the criteria of a Vengeful Spirit, and he’s undoubtably great being the undisputed King of Curses. He definitely fits the criteria. He’s already quite active in the story and he will be even more in the future.
  3. ?: My best guess here is Brain. Brain has been implied multiple times to be much, much older than all the other characters since he compliments Mei on being a good sorcerer ‘for this era’ and hasn’t felt regret in a very long time. He’s likely died at some point considering he’s just a brain with a mouth now. His ability to body snatch people is very strong and we don’t know if he can keep anything from the bodies he leaves behind, maybe he can still use their techniques too.
Another idea might be Uraume as they are extremely old and likely very powerful, but I doubt a great spirit would be subservient to another instead of ruling their own group.
Other. Rika Orimoto: Rika isn’t one of the three but it’s important I think to bring her up. Rika is likely the most powerful modern cursed spirit other than Sukuna to ever exist, her title as ‘Queen of Curses’ makes her out to be a direct rival to him and her power more than backs it up, she basically one shots a special grade Shaman after blowing through another special grade curse and thousands of grade 3-1 curses, which is an insane feat on top of power copying. Geto thought he could beat Gojo if he captured her, which really says everything. Maybe in the future it’ll be the Four Great Vengeful Spirits, she can’t be understated.
In summary, this is who I believe the Three Great Vengeful Spirits are. Whether Sugawara-No-Michizane becomes more important later or not isn’t easy to tell, but it’s certainly possible. Vengeful Spirits are an interesting concept, maybe we’ll see characters that have died in the story come back as Vengeful Spirits such as Geto.

9/21 card & notes:

Main Event –Princess Tag Championship match

  • Hakuchumu – Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe (Champions) VS BeeStar – Mirai Maumi & Suzume (challengers)

Undercard:

  • Natsumi Maki’s final ToJo match - Natsumi Maki vs Hikari Noa
  • Tag match – MiraKurianzu – Shoko Nakajima & Yuka Sakazaki VS Itoh Respect Army - Maki Itoh & Mizuki
  • Mina Shirakawa’s final ToJo six woman tag match– Yuki Kamifuku, Mina Shirakawa & Mahiro Kiryu VS Tenma Nodoka, Yuki Aino & Neko Haruna
  • Singles match – Miyu Yamashita VS Sena Shiori
  • Singles match – Harajuku Pom VS Moka Miyamoto
  • Threeway match - Hyper Misao VS Raku VS Himawari Unagi

notes

  • Tokyo Joshi goes to Shinagawa for the first time with a 7 match card
  • In the main even we have a big test for two of Tokyo Joshi’s star rookies. Suzume and Mirai Maiumi, now calling themselves “BeeStar” have challenged Rika and Miu for their tag belts. Both rookies have just entered into their second year of wrestling with Suzume just passing the 1 year mark in August. Despite their limited experience however, Mirai and Suzume have developed tremendously over the past year. Their abilities individually have already allowed them to have excellent showings in this year’s princess cup where Mirai was able to take Miu Watanabe to the limit and Suzume was able to gain a win over one of her upperclassmen. Along with their showing in the tournament they have both managed to gain multiple wins as both singles and tag competitors and being from the same training class they are very familiar with one another allowing them to work fluidly as a tag team using a classic paring of one power member and one speed member. The two will be a formidable challenge for the for the tag champs but the question is will it be enough? Rika and Miu have held the tag belts since November 2019 and have been able to defend them against a variety of opponents. They’ve been able to hone their abilities as a tag team and have been ready for any style that was thrown at them. They have a strong power game with Miu and a peak technique game with Rika’s penchant for joint manipulation. The challengers most likely road to victory is to keep Rika in the ring and overwhelm her with quick tags and lots of misdirection from Suzume followed up by power attacks by Mirai.
  • Natsumi Maki will be leaving Tokyo Joshi at the end of the month so this will be her last match. As such, her main tag partner for most of her stay, Hikari Noa, has requested that Natsumi face her for Natsumi’s last match in the promotion. Hikari and Natsumi were paired together not long after Natsumi entered the promotion. Together they fought against most of the major teams in Tokyo Joshi and challenged for the Princess tag championships. During Natsumi’s injury Hikari fought in her name even going so far as to try to win back the International Princess belt in her name. In a way Natsumi took Hikari under her wing and helped her develop her in-ring style. With Natsumi, Hikari was able to express herself better and really bloom as a performer even though she’s naturally very shy. Hikari feels a sisterhood with Natsumi and that feeling is what drove her to request the match. The two know each other in and out after tagging and being together for so long so expect a fast pace back and forth between the two. Each trying to wear the other down enough to be able to catch the other with their hardest hitting technique. Natsumi probably knows that her backlash won’t be strong enough to take down such a determined Hikari and will likely be looking to use her bridging german suplex to finish the match. Hikari on the other hand will look for opportunities to catch Natsumi with the Uranage. This will be a deeply emotional match for both women.
  • With Wrestle Princess soon on the horizon, Yuka and Mizuki will begin to feel each other out before their huge main event singles match. In an exciting blast from the past. They have been scheduled to face each other in a tag match where Yuka will reform her partnership with MiraKurianzu partner Shoko Nakajima while Mizuki will be paired with Maki Itoh, effectively reforming the original Itoh Respect Army. At first glance both of these teams have a good deal of experience working with each other however Mizuki and Maki have had a rocky relationship in the past year or so. If they can push past their past difficulties they are a formidable fighting force. On the other hand, Shoko and Yuka have a good relationship and have been tagging since nearly the birth of Tokyo Joshi. They are well oiled and always excel when tagging together. This will be an fun throwback into Tokyo Joshi history.
  • Mina Shirakawa has also decided to leave Tokyo Joshi to expand and grow. For her final match, she, Kamiyu and Mahiro will take on the Bakuretsu sisters and Haruna in a 6 woman tag. Mina really connected with Kamiyu during her time in Tokyo Joshi and has a deep love for the sisters as they always do nerd stuff together. Mina was a huge personality in Tokyo Joshi and will be missed deeply when she leaves. Hopefully her successful career eventually sees her make a few returns to Tokyo Joshi.
  • Sena Shiori has a tough singles match ahead of her as she faces off against ToJo’s ace, Miyu Yamashita. Sena has been getting better and better even with the limited amount of time she’s had in the ring. But, taking on Yamashita will take all of the experience grit and ingenuity she has. She’s going to have to dig deep to come out on top of this one.
  • Moka continues to experience the various styles of the girls in Tokyo Joshi as she comes face to face with Harajuku Pom. How will she combat the queen of shin style?
  • A three-way match has been set pitting PaMi, Raku and Unagi against one another. Each of the competitors have become quite cunning recently so this match will be an exciting opportunity to see how they interact with one another. PaMi’s plans are often elaborate and can often involve various trinkets. Raku’s sleepy time techniques have become more intricate and her creativity has put many competitors in danger of losing. Unagi’s antics have helped her in numerous successes. It should be one heck of a match.
  • Marika Kobashi, now in university, has begun training again. She has posted videos of herself back at weight training as well as training in kickboxing. However, with the situation with the pandemic her return has been thrown into limbo and there is no word on when she will re-enter the ring. Marika and we’re waiting for you to return!
  • Tokyo Joshi currently has 1 more known trainee that will likely make her debut sometime in the near future.
  • There are currently 4 shows before the bit WRESTLE PRINCESS show on 11/7 in Tokyo Dome City. Currently only the main event, Yuka Sakazaki VS Mizuki has been announced. We will likely be getting a few more announcements at this show and in the coming weeks.
  • Thunder Rosa still holds the Tokyo Joshi International Princess title. There does not appear to be any intent to strip her of the title. Her next (first) defense is still unknown.
  • An online signing of Polaroid pictures taken by each of the ladies on the roster is scheduled to begin next week. Purchasing period will end on September 22nd just before midnight local Japan time. Interested international parties must purchase through a 3rd party service. In the comments you must write to whom you would like the Polaroid made out (1). As well as whether or not you would like that name to be read out online during the signing. 可 for yes or 不 for no (2).

2020.09.19 01:09 random_redditor101 [Japanese to English] Comment I saw on a recent video.

So I was basically just browsing youtube before I found this video https://youtu.be/87poJ6X2_SA, which is a studio live recording that is dated (not the date of the video itself) 1978, 2 years after the formation of this Japanese jazz fusion band called Casiopea. I honestly never knew that there was recorded material of the band this early, at least other than their performance at this amateur band contest called EastWest in 1977... but I guess I was wrong. The uploader posted and pinned this comment:
後記:カシオペアくらいレコードデビュー前から話題になり、知れ渡っていたバンドは他に無いのではないでしょうか。 ヤマハ楽器渋谷店などで無料のライブをよくやっていて、情報誌 “ぴあ” を見て追っかけていたものです😸💨。 このスタジオライブを聴いていた私は、デビューアルバムのホーンセクションに戸惑いました🙀‼。 プリズム派とカシオペア派に分かれたりして、お酒を飲みながら語り合ったのもいい思い出です。😽
It would absolutely be appreciated if someone translated this for me. Honestly!
[Note: Prism was another band that popped up around that time. Curiously, it had Tohru "Rika" Suzuki as a drummer, who also happened to be the drummer for Casiopea in 1976.]

2020.09.11 06:07 Genprey Symbolism of Magia Record: The Self-Reflection of Rika

Previous: The Malevolence of Hanna
For those who have not already read it, I have already done a section on Ren, whose backstory is linked to Rika's.
Rika is actually a girl I've been deliberating to do back since I first started this series, but I held off on doing so when I originally chose not to cover girls without their Doppel/Uncap, but also partly because I wanted to make sure I took my time with Rika, so that I could make sure I was ready to give her story the respect it deserves.
To sort of spoil what's coming, Rika's theme is that of the concept of normalcy and self-expression as it is applied to young teenagers. In particular, Rika is confirmed to be lesbian and part of her background briefly goes over the implications of being homosexual as an adolescent. Such an experience is something I can be knowledgeable about but not fully understand as someone who has not had a similar circumstance as Rika. For that, I wanted some extra time to make sure that I'm at least somewhat qualified to discuss this subject in a way that is thorough and respectful.
Much like certain other girls, this is less me discussing symbolism and more of me explaining Rika as a character who is going through something very real and relatable. In other words, this is going to be like reading a book on sociology, so I apologize ahead of time for that and will try not to make this super boring.

Pursuing One's Own Individuality

We, as humans, go through various stages of life. From birth through childhood, we pretty much coast along a straight path as we begin to learn and internalize social norms from our parents, teachers, and peers. During this phase, we learn what is acceptable and when it is acceptable, which end up serving as a sort of template for our personality.
Starting around middle school, as we experience physical and psychological changes to an extreme, we then begin developing individuality. This includes style (clothing, likes/dislikes, etc.), a basic idea of who we want to be when we're older, and, of course, who we seek as friends and romantic partners. From an outside perspective (i.e. as someone who has already jumped that hurdle), such a time is an interesting part of one's life, as we see youth branch out past the homogeneous schematics that we developed as young kids. This should be a wonderful part of life, but as a lot of us might know already, kids can be really cruel.
The best way to sum Rika up is that "she is herself". We can take that and apply it to many other girls, of course, but the writers go the extra mile to let us know that Rika is developing her individuality. This, unfortunately, comes with its own set of difficulties, as we see in her personal Memoria:
She's in love with all the most popular fashions, all the latest cosmetics. She loves girly fashion, but she is often treated with prejudice for her appearance. -Fashion at Full Speed!
As mentioned in the last sentence, Rika being herself is met with objection from her peers. To my knowledge, specific reasons as to why her peers didn't accept her are not mentioned, but we can assume that it's based on something as petty as not following a trend. This, of course, is due to the fact that certain teenagers have not fully matured and understood the concept of self-expression and why being different is perfectly normal.
The environments where young people socialize tend to be a vicious cycle of conformity. What starts as individuals seeking like-minded peers degrades into filtering out those who are too different from you and your group. Those who desire a social group, as any person would, then sacrifice their uniqueness in order to fit in, and the cycle continues.
With that being said, there's a bit of irony with Rika, in that she's actually "normal" by design. From her character description:
A Magical Girl who is into the latest fashion and make-up. Rika appears to be a typical girly girl, but she is actually very seriously in love. She has been secretly admiring the same person for years. A genuine person, she gets along with everyone.
...we see that she's described as being the "average girl". To add to this, the Japanese characters that make up her last name, Ayano, mean "design" and "plain", which, when put together, says "plain design".
This is something we see in Rika's design, in that her magical girl attire doesn't stray very far from the typical look of magical girls you see in other popular anime of the genre like "Sailor Moon" and "Cardcaptor Sakura". This is something that is clearly an intentional choice in design, and the statement I believed that is to be had here is that a person is best defined by their actions and personality than their appearance. Rika's appearance does little to draw our attention, but she manages to be a popular and well-liked character based on her interaction with characters like Hinano and especially Ren.
Our teenage years would be a hell of a lot easier if our peers saw each other with that in mind.

The Meaning of Love...

This leads us to another key part of Rika's character: her romantic preference and wish. As mentioned earlier, Rika is attracted to other girls, and while dressing different will land you nasty remarks, being homosexual (particularly a few years back) as a teenager tends to quite difficult. There is prejudice and bullying, which I won't really cover, as that's something I think we all are aware of, but the main thing I do want to go over is support or a lack thereof.
The primary orientation in your typical community is heterosexuality, with the ratio of those who identified as being homosexual to those as heterosexual being about 1-in-10 in Japan. Assuming Rika was raised in a traditional household consisting of a male and female parent, discovering and coming to terms with being attracted to other girls is an experience that is wildly confusing and especially difficult. Most of us probably haven't been raised with much knowledge on how a man can be attracted to another man or a woman to another woman, as human relations is a complex subject and most parents tend to either be uncomfortable or not very mindful about discussing such things with their child.
Likewise, teachers aren't all qualified to discuss the subject (as it's usually left to specialists and therapists) and I definitely wouldn't bank on most kids as a comfortable source of comfort if they ostracize someone for wearing different clothes than they.
Not only this, but falling in love is something that is extra difficult for Rika. Recall that most individuals identify as being heterosexual and add in the fact that a percentage of those who do not are possibly repressing themselves, either due to confusion or social pressure. In Rika's case, the girl she fell in love with turns out to have been interested in boys. So along with finding a girl who fits Rika's preferences, she also has to find someone with a similar orientation as her. This is what serves as the motivation behind Rika's wish.
During Rika's MGS, Rika laments that her love for her crush will forever be unrequited. It's one thing for two individuals of the same orientation to start off being uninterested in each other romantically, only to learn more of each other and fall in love later, without Rika's crush viewing her romantically, the two cannot develop a romantic relationship.
That is without the intervention of a certain "furball" (a name that apparently hurts Kyubey more than Homura's firearms). Wishes are an absolute power...but also not very thorough. Having wished for her crush to fall in love with her, Rika starts off happy...but shortly after, feels empty:
It's okay if I'm only dreaming, or even if it's all an illusion. Put aside any thoughts of guilt or deception. Just for now, I want to take in this sweet smell for a little longer, and let it cloud my senses. -Love Smells Like This
As described in this Memoria, Rika is aware that the love she's experiencing with her crush is artificial, being the result of her wish. There is a lot of emphasis put on the sense of smell here, and that's because the scent of something only gives a vague, sometimes false, idea of what something actually is. Some things, for example, might smell sweet, but actually be bitter or poisonous.
As depicted in the illustration of this Memoria, holding hands and walking with your partner is something a lot of us know that lovers do, however, such a thing is only surface-level if there is no feeling or emotion to it. I can hold hands with a female friend, but because we don't view each other romantically, this is likely an empty act performed as a way to get a couples discount at IHOP.
Although Rika genuinely loves her crush and Rika's crush loves her back (as per her wish), Rika steadily finds it difficult to maintain the relationship as it's missing a core part of love.

Being in Love and Loving Someone

Love is...a complicated thing, and I feel like I should clear up that I'm no Dr. Love, rather, a twenty-something-year-old dude who hasn't dated since highschool. With that in mind, there are 2 aspects of love that are rather difficult to distinguish. That is: being in love and loving somebody.
Being in love specifically refers to shallow affection, which isn't necessarily negative. Things like "puppy dog crushes" and "young love" could be considered as individual(s) "being in love", in that they may not fully understand their partner or object of affection. As a 10-year-old, I was "in love" with my teacher until I learned the implication behind the title "Mrs." the hard way. Further, young people will naturally seek out love among their peers, but such a relationship may not last if they discover that they really aren't meant for each other in that way.
This is the area Rika stands. Between feeling guilty about her wish, she begins to come to terms with the fact that, despite loving her crush, the girl she likes doesn't organically romantically love her in return. "To love someone" is to mutually understand and accept their characteristics and is paired with the desire to make them happy as they would equally want to make you. Put simply, true love is a two-sided deal that is only achieved naturally through the understanding of one another.
Rika's wish made the unlikely happen, but without that important step. By the end of her MGS, it is because Rika loved her crush so much that she wanted to make her happy with the boy she had loved.

Mirror Mirror...

It goes without saying that realizing all this shows that Rika is capable of self-reflection, or the understanding of the weight of her thoughts and actions. Although there isn't a lot to Rika's design, her weapon, a compact mirror, ends up saying a lot about her character.
Mirrors symbolize one's true self and the truth of the world it reflects. Such a truth is not always something we want to accept, and in Rika's case, she had to come to terms with the fact that the love she had for her crush was one-sided. There is, however, positive connotations to mirrors, and something that's worth noting is the fact that the one Rika has, in particular, is a compact mirror, which implies something more personal, as it more narrowly reflects the user who is looking in it. As such, Rika's weapon also symbolizes her keen ability to reflect on herself.
If we were to look at the design on the mirror's surface, we can recognize the shape as a hexagram. In Indian culture, a hexagram is the core part of the Anahata, which represents complex emotions involved with unconditional love, rejection and compassion.
The Anahata is depicted as a lotus flower, or "Renge" in Japanese. "Ren" serves as a play on "Renge", and this is something that is brought up during the "Diary With You" event when Rika is deciding on what gift she wants to give Ren. In this same scene, Rika decides on getting May Bell flowers, which are named "Suzuran" in Japanese. "Suzuran" is phonetically similar to "Ren" and, as stated by Konomi, symbolize pure and genuine emotions in the official language of flowers.
This brings us to one last part of this section:

Rika and Ren (Christmas)

Something else to know about mirrors is their nature of reflecting light, which is very clear in Rika's final ascension art. When she met Ren, Ren was in a very dark place in her life, having made a second attempt at suicide. Showing unconditional concern, it was Rika who would serve as a guiding light for Ren to follow through her darkness.
Rika and Ren as Christmas characters is something that was likely carefully planned. Christmas, taking place during Winter, is somewhat conflicting. On one hand, it is a time where many people are happy and spend time with each other, but on the other, it is also a season that is frigid, where the sky is obscured by clouds and plant-life is killed by snow...unless you live in places like Florida. We don't get Winter down here.
Bringing our attention to the pair's personal Memoria:
Even if it's small, this is definite proof that our hearts communicate.
The light of hope that warms cold hearts. No matter how cold the night gets, I can get over it As long as this warmth is in my chest. -The Lights on Our Chests
...we see that light is brought up as a source of warmth. In my analysis on Ren, I compared her to that of an angel, while Rika, as mentioned above, reflects light with her mirror.
The illustration for this Memoria depicts a conflicting scene, candles with snowmen and winter-themed imagery, but also a small flame to warm everything below it. Much like what the Memoria effect (debuff removal) would imply, this scene represents hopefulness and comfort, even among rough conditions.
Their 2nd Magia is named "Aurora Stream", referencing the phenomenon that occurs when our atmosphere mixes with particles from the universe. Such an event represents the beauty that occurs when 2 individuals are able to meet and coexist with each other.
In Rika-Ren's character description, there's a mention of them enjoying snowglobes. Being mementos of Christmas, snowglobes are everlasting and represent eternal joy, even after Christmas has long passed.
Coming next is Umika, and from there, I will move up through the Another Daze girls, although I'm not yet certain the exact order after Umika will be.

2020.09.03 03:17 Joey_245 No Arc 2 in English, so I thought I'd share my "Where are they now?" headcanons!

I got bored of the Magia Record grind a long time ago and have no intention of restarting from scratch on the JP version, but I still love the characters. So I thought I'd give them a proper sendoff, starting with my favorites. Note that these assume that Touka, Nemu, and the rest found a way to bring the Doppel phenomenon global without doing the stuff the Magius did, which eventually leads to all the Witches basically going extinct. Thus removing the need for them to be Magical Girls altogether.
Did I miss any of your favorite girls? What kind of lives do you think the Kamihama girls would live if Arc 2 had never happened? Don't be afraid to tell me what you think! This game has given me so many good memories, and though I won't be joining y'all on the JP server, I wish you all the best. Thanks for having me, and don't succumb to despair!

2020.08.30 10:20 aliswair Middle School Accident (Who will expose Alyssa?)

Well I was re-reading I Love Yoo and i noticed that nobody other than ShinAe brought up Alyssa in the middle school. We are aware of the fact that Alyssa was the one who pushed her, but even ShinAe never says it directly. She said "I got involved with those girls and ended up getting injured terribly.". Of course that might be because of her memory loss of the moment, but wouldn't she at least remember that Alyssa was the one who pushed her?
Knowing our selfless girl, she might have just said that she just accidentaly fell while having an argument with Alyssa and the girls.
I think like this because pushing someone off of a three-story building is an attempted murder and Alyssa should have had major difficulties on her carrier about this, and this fact would be revealed eventually.
Well it could be that Alyssa and the girls who said that ShinAe accidentaly fell too, since ShinAe said "Especially when i don't exactly know the truth.". ShinAe knows better than to go running her mouth off to people. There is actually a chance that she was never aware of what happened too, she might get her memories back eventually maybe that's how she will tell others. Let's make a list of who might know and who might not because that's what I'm best at.
(?) - Might be aware of the accident.
(/) - Not aware of the accident.
Shin Ae (?) She is not aware of what happened. Even if she is, she wouldn't go expose Alyssa over something that has been ages. She might tell Nol, but i highly doubt it. He wouldn't side with anyone but Shin Ae might think he will be aggressive and side with his girlfriend.
Maya (?) She is probably not aware of it either, but it is obvious she is suspicious. If my theory is true, she or the Dieter are the only ones who might expose Alyssa to Nol. Maya is the only one who knows right now. (Again, if this theory is true.)
Min Hyuk (?) Well, there is not much to say. He blames himself but why would he blame himself if Alyssa was clearly at fault? There was nothing he could do too. Of course, guilt doesn't work that way but yeah.
Dieter (/) He doesn't know, but i think he will ask Maya and she will say what's on her mind about the accident. He will probably bring it up to Nol at some point since he isn't genuine friends with Alyssa like Soushi. He is probably the only one who could tell Nol about the accident if this theory is true.
Rika and Soushi (?) There are some theories about Soushi, saying he went to same middle school with Shin Ae and Alyssa. Tbh these seems wrong to me but I Love Yoo is a small world, it could be true. There is no way Rika would know if this theory is true. She wasn't suspicious at all, and probably wasn't even aware that Shin Ae was at cleaning duty with Alyssa and her friends.
And then there is Nol, i want to know how will he react when he learns. Well, what would you think if i told you Nol is going to be the one who exposes Alyssa to the world if his anti hero arc goes smoothly?
There is no doubt that Alyssa's career would razed to the ground if people learned she pushed some innocent girl off of a building. Of course, people might justify that by saying Shin Ae was the problematic one and she deserved it. But there is no reason to mention Shin Ae's name when exposing Alyssa. Also, Alyssa might have done some... inappropriate things to get where she is. (Offering herself, some oracle from Yui etc.)
Yui might not protect her too when that happens, since she would probably be no use anymore. (They would have broken up with Nol and Yui only uses her because Alyssa is useful to her controlling Nol. Well, Yui thinks they are close since they are dating.)
Well, whoever it is. I Love Yoo is a world of consequences of actions. What Alyssa did will definitely come back to bit her ass and give her a good head ache.
